Why Republicans Must Impeach Donald Trump. Today.

Donald Trump must be impeached immediately. Its not because he is a racist. Its not because he is an authoritarian fascist (which he is). Its because he is an active president that has egregiously flouted the rule of law.

Donald Trump told his supporters at the rally to go to the nation’s capital. He knew that electoral votes were being cast as well as his audience; that’s what motivated the riot. They wanted to interrupt a peaceful transfer of power. Initiated by the President of the United States no less!

Allowing a man like that to continue to hold office, even when his tenure is about to expire, sends a message to the world: we have no principles. Individual rights? Constitutional procedure? Rule of law? Nah, those can be thrown by the wayside in the event an election doesn’t go our way. Even if their claims of “election fraud” are true, only through the courts would it ever be legitimate to overturn an election. Trump has failed to produce the results he desires through constitutional means, so the “solution” is to incite violence against the nation’s capital. The Republican Party must repudiate these actions of the president. I have heard chatter online that there isn’t a point in doing so, though that is the furthest thing from the truth.

By impeaching President Donald Trump, it would show to the world that the Republican Party does not condone nor sanction the president’s flagrant defiance of the rule of law. It would show the world the Republican Party means to take seriously the vows they swore when entering office. Without taking necessary action, principles are flimsy platitudes; no political entity can survive on such basis long-term. Given the implication of Trump’s actions, that as acting presidency he has endorsed anarchy, he must be swiftly and resolutely condemned. The only action that will suffice is simple: impeachment.

I say this as a man who voted for Trump in 2020. I had my reasons, though there were none in favor of Trump, only against the radical left. If the Republican Party dissolves, what is the alternative to the left? The Libertarian Party? There is no realistic alternative. As much as I disagree with the Republican Party, they are unfortunately the best option for any person interested in liberty.
